Who are we?
EastAgri is an informal platform for sharing information, best practices and lessons learned on agricultural and agribusiness financing and rural development among key practitioners working in Eastern Europe, Central Asia and the Caucasus. Created in 2002, EastAgri has 24 institutional members and 200 individual users. Its founding members are: the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD), the World Bank and the Central European Initiative (CEI). Other members include: international development organizations and finance institutions, the European Union, the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development, private banks and bilateral institutions.
How do we operate?
Our platform operates through three information-sharing tools:
Website: Our website (www.eastagri.org) is hosted and managed by FAO and provides information and data on:
- more than 800 agricultural and agribusiness projects being carried out by international financing institutions, private banks and international development organizations (See: EastAgri Projects)
- almost 30 agriculture and agribusiness-sector descriptions (See: EastAgri Sectors)
- more than 30 country profiles (See: EastAgri Countries)
- descriptions of the leading agribusiness companies in the ETCs (early transition countries) and WBCs (western balkans countries). Information is provided on the top five companies for ten different sectors in 13 countries for a total of over 500 companies (See: EastAgri Agribusiness Database)
We update our information and news and disseminate it on a weekly basis through press releases, short notes and announcements, all with a view to promoting coordinated or joint programmes and projects in agricultural investment. The website also includes publications that are of particular relevance to our members. (See: EastAgri Publications)
Annual meetings: Our annual meetings are an occasion to discuss the most recent agricultural/ agribusiness trends and best investment and financing practices in the region. The idea of these informal events is to build relationships, exchange best practices, avoid duplication of activities and promote coordination among the key players in the region. About 100 participants attend the meetings, all of whom are directors or senior representatives of EastAgri members. To date, five annual meetings have taken place – two in Budapest, one in Rome, one in Berlin and one in Paris.
Thematic workshops and study tours: EastAgri sponsors thematic and country-specific workshops and study tours to enable members to have hands-on experience of relevant issues being addressed in the event. To date, 23 workshops and four study tours have been held.
